Dr. James P. Frazee is the Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at San Diego State University. Reporting directly to the President, Dr. Frazee is responsible for IT strategic oversight and provides vision and leadership to support the technology excellence that empowers SDSU's success. His partnerships with faculty, staff, students, academic leaders, campus stakeholders, and regional, national, and international higher education and industry partners enable innovation and documentation of results. Dr. Frazee believes in the service mission of public higher education and has seen his career as a vehicle to support that mission. He provides leadership with sincerity and a great sense of responsibility for the people he leads and the stakeholders he represents. Dr. Frazee thrives in and actively fosters collaborative, data-informed, innovative working environments. His progressively responsible executive-level experience in technology leadership positions reflects his unwavering commitment to student success. He has published and presented widely on obtaining, managing, and leveraging large state and federal educational technology grants, designing faculty professional development programs, strategic technology and campus space planning, and using technology to push curriculum reform. The CIO Times recognized Dr. Frazee as one of the “5 Rising Leaders in Education to follow in 2024”. He credits an impressive team of staff and faculty fellows for these accolades and the steady rise of SDSU's IT Division as an internationally recognized leader and national powerhouse.
